Regarding the dictionary definition of the basic characters, ‘Character’ means the signs that represented the words to be able to be read with the eyes. ‘Characters’ are the signs of the letters learning from other person, the ‘letters’ are the signs that wrote the words in a constant system, and the ‘handwritings’ are the signs that represented the words visually. The beginning and the motivation of the hangeul (the Korean alphabet) of Korea, which had been systematized in earnest by the King Sejong the Great, had been enormously public. This public character becomes an important basis for the invention of the hangeul, and it has a strong mentality of the love for the people, which has been highly evaluated in the modern age.
The minimum unit that makes the images of the works becomes a halftone dot, and the many halftone dots produce one work of art by the hangeul, English, Japanese, and the signs. The characters, which comprise the minimum unit that produces the images in a work meets the essential function of the art regard to the point that they make the communication possible over diverse culture.
In that context, the people such as the cultural stars who have been receiving the love by the public and the masterpieces beyond the age and region had been the main subject matters. The following had been the motifs of my work. In Korea, the King Sejong, the great general Sunshin Lee, in the United States, the President Abraham Lincoln, the President John F. Kennedy, the President Barack Obama, the cultural start Marilyn Monroe, and among the famous works of art, Venus, Mona Lisa, and Le Penseur(The Thinker), etc.

기본적인 문자의 사전적 정의를 보면 “문자(文字)”의 의미는 말을 눈으로 읽을 수 있게 나타낸 기호를 의미한다. “문자(問字)”는 남에게서 글자를 배움, “글자”는 말을 일정한 체계로 적은 기호, “글씨”는 말을 시각적으로 나타낸 기호이다. 세종대왕에 의해서 본격적으로 체계화된 우리나라의 한글이라는 문자는 그 시작과 동기가 굉장히 공공적이라고 볼 수 있다. 이 공공적인 성격은 한글 창제의 중요한 근간이 되며, 시간이 지나 현대에도 높게 평가 받는 애민정신이라는 정신성과도 큰 연관을 이룬다.
작업의 이미지를 만들어내는 최소 단위는 망점이 되고, 수많은 망점들이 한글과 영문, 일어, 기호에 의해 하나의 작품을 연출해 낸다. 작업에서 이미지를 만들어내는 최소 단위이자 주 재료(媒體)가 되는 문자는 여러 다양한 문화를 뛰어 넘어 소통을 가능하게 한다는 점에서 예술의 본질적인 기능과 맞닿아 있다.
이러한 맥락에서 시대와 지역을 뛰어 넘은 인물들이나 명화(名畵)들을 주된 소재로 삼았다.
한국의 경우 세종대왕과 성웅 이순신장군 그리고 대중의 사랑을 받고 있는 문화계스타를 선정했다. 미국의 경우 아브라함 링컨 대통령과 존 에프 케네디 대통령, 버락 오바마 대통령 그리고 대중의 사랑을 받고 있는 문화계스타 마릴린 먼로 등을 선정했고, 명작품들 중에는 비너스, 모나리자, 생각하는 사람 등을 모티브로 하였다.
