My works, which have the image of the nature as the motif, depart from the recognition regarding the existence of the human beings and from the research on the relationship between the nature and the human beings. Based on the affectionate eyes and the observations regarding them, it is intended to express the nature and the old things regarding which we forget easily while we live through the formative language through the hanji.
Regarding the subject matters that become the motifs of my works, they are not the things that were completed in a single day and they are not the things that get extinct right away, but they are the nature that had been formed and preserved over a long time. When the many pages of the hanji make the dented and bulging shapes by slowly overlapping, the images make me associate the things of the nature that had been at the same place silently for a very long time. Through the diverse and strong shapes that the thin and weak hanji produces by gathering, which accompanies for a long time, it is intended to contain the temporality of the slow but yet constant nature.
Also, the nature has been revealing the unique temporality very frankly. Among the things in our surroundings, including the rising of the sun and the raining falling down when it becomes the time and the sprouting at the place after the seeds were sowed, the thing that shows the frank appearance just the way it is the most is probably the nature. When the hanji gets overlapped on the materials such as the wood plates, the plaster plates, the copper plates, and the iso pink plates, etc., which are the frameworks of the basic images at the bottom, the fine points, the curves of the lines and the sides are illuminated honestly and frankly on the surface of its unique properties of the thin hanji,
한지 작품 / 작가 노트
자연(自然)의 이미지를 모티브로 한 나의 작업들은 인간 존재에 대한 인식 그리고 자연과 인간의 관계에 대한 탐구에서부터 출발한다. 그들에 대한 애정 어린 시선과 관찰을 바탕으로, 우리가 쉽게 잊고 살아가는 자연과 오랜 것들을 한지(韓紙)를 통한 조형언어로 표현하고자 한다.
나의 작업 모티브가 되는 소재들은 하루아침에 완성된 것도, 금방 소멸되어지는 것도 아닌 오랜 시간을 거쳐 형성되고 보존되어온 자연이다. 여러 장의 한지가 서서히 겹쳐져 오목하고 볼록한 형상을 만들어낼 때, 그 이미지들은 나로 하여금 아주 오랜 세월 동안 묵묵히 같은 자리에 있어온 자연의 것들을 연상시킨다. 오랜 시간을 동반하는 얇고 연약한 한지가 모여 만들어내는 다양하고 견고한 형상들을 통해 느리지만 한결같은 자연의 시간성을 담아내고자 한다.
또한 자연은 그 특유의 시간성을 아주 솔직하게 드러내왔다. 때가 되면 해가 뜨며 비가 오고, 씨를 뿌리면 그 자리에 싹이 나는, 우리 주변의 것들 중 가장 있는 그대로의 솔직한 모습을 보여주는 것은 아마 자연일 것이다. 가장 아래에서 기본적인 이미지의 틀이 되는 목판, 석고판, 동판, 아이소핑크판 등의 재료 위에 한지가 겹쳐질 때 얇은 한지만의 고유 물성에 의해 그들을 지탱하는 판의 미세한 점과, 선과, 면들의 굴곡들을 정직하고 솔직하게 비추어 낸다.
