Since 1980s, Kim Hyuntae has been one of the representative artist in the field of tapestry art in Korea. Over nearly 40 years of dedicated practice, he has pursued his artistic mission of creating Korean imagery, focusing primarily on themes related to the relationship between humans and nature. In his work, tapestries become warm paintings with unique matiere achieved through the weaving of warp and weft threads, embodying the essence of honest labour that requires extensive time and labour. Representative series includes ‘Dawn’, ‘Traces of History’, and ‘Contrast-Calligraphy’, showcasing the warmth of texture of tapestry and his distinctive artistic language.
김현태는 1980년대부터 타피스트리와 한지를 소재로 한국적 이미지 창작이라는 시대적 소명의 식과 자신만의 내재적 주제인 자연과 인간의 관계를 주제로 자신의 예술을 심화시켰다. 40년의 시간동안 천작해 온 태피스트리는 날실과 씨실로 짜내며 만들어진 특유의 마띠에르가 녹아진 따 뜻한 회화(Warm Painting)이자, 긴 시간과 노동이 수반되는 정직한 노동(Honest Labour)의 작업이다. 태피스트리 특유의 온도감 있는 물성과 작가 특유의 조형 언어를 가지고 자연과 산, 여 명을 모티프로 한 여명 시리즈, 역사의 궤적, 대비-캘리그래프 시리즈 등이 대표적이다.
